Welcome to Porter Language Service

PLS Advocacy

Currently Porter Language Service is emphasising all efforts on aiding possible victims of human trafficking from other countries, and may have been trafficked to the United States. Human trafficking is a very difficult problem to detect that affects men, women, children, parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, friends, neighbors, and fellow citizens.

According to the FBI, human trafficking of children and adults is the second largest criminal enterprise in the world, second to drugs. At the its current rate, human trafficking could replace the drug trade as the number one illegal entity in the world within the next five years.

Currently, the End Sex Trafficking Act of 2013 (H.R. 2805) fights the demand for sex trafficking of minors and specifically targets offenders who exploit children for sex trafficking. The amendment of H.R. 2805 would mean that patrons as well as pimps who exploit minors for sex would face harsh punishment of a fine and imprisonment of no less than 15 years if the minor is less than 14 years of age at the time of the offense. If the minor is older than 14 and less than 18 years of age at the time of the offense, the offender faces a fine and no less than 10 years in prison.

There are major types of human trafficking which are moste likely hiding in our own communities. The first group is catigorized as forced/bondage labor. The second group, which is what most people think of as human trafficking is called Sex Trafficking. Two other types of human trafficking which are not as evident in the United States, but are very prominent in other countries include abduction for organ harvesting and child soldiers.

If you suspect human trafficking in your area please call your local law enforcement. Remember it is better to be wrong than to let someone to continue to live in slavery.
